Blink and we will miss the women’s season, March to July. Only 5 definite starting events and 3 tentative ones is not great.

  2. oilies local says:

    How to improve the WCT…

The WCT should include Margaret River, G-Land, J-Bay, Fernado de Norha, Sunset and a Search comp. scrap the Rio mush fest. They should also forget about only counting the top 8 results and make it all 14 results cumulative like all other sporting championships so the most consistent performer wins.

They also need to seriously fix the judging it is so flawed that it is holding back the sport.

  3. william says:

With 9 comps, I think the WCT has no power, next stage will be world champ decided by the one world rankings.

  4. shaman rainman says:

so, i quit watching football when i felt it was lame…. i switched to surfing…. oh yeah, but the live feeds sometimes suck, as a boogy boarder myself, i also took up the IBA, but their webcasts are even worse…. i just went out and spent over 600$ on something new…. can you guess what i bought? a surfboard for my 250 pound body???? a complete new surf wardrobe???? a new boogy board and lots of accessories???? or a brand new 2013 TREK shift 3 24 speed comfort ride xover mtn bike to get out and restart my life…. i bought the bike…. have a nice next season….

  5. wozza says:

    only 9 comps..??..
was the tour reduced so Kelly couldnt miss a comp and still win the world title??

  6. Tim says:

It should be 12 comps with the best 10 counted, for both men and women or no championship. This is almost as bad as 2001!!!!!!. They make millions selling T-shirts etc. and this is their response, 9 comps….., the surfing industry is a disgrace!!!!!!!!!!

  7. tim g says:

Red Bull should step in and sponser Jbay. Billabong don’t have the cash. and the search event is skipping this year only.

  8. CB says:

DIdn’t see the Santa Cruz Cold Water Classic or any of the CWC series events in the Prime or Star schedule… No more Cold Waters at all? What happened there?

  9. Sargeant Slaughter says:

Your giving these long haired hippy slackers nearly 3 months off at end of year AND 2 months off mid-year!! What happened to good old fashioned work ethic? This is unacceptable mister – drop and give me 20!

  10. Greg says:

J-Bay must be included. Is there a better wave anywhere when it comes to total surfing? Every subjective aspect of wave riding is on display at J-Bay. The winner is usually a complete surfer. One dimensional surfers and one trick ponies don’t win at J-Bay. In fact, in the last 10 years as WCT event your J-Bay winners are Kelly Slater, Andy Irons, Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Taj Burrow and Jordy Smith. Enough said. You must have J-Bay.

    1. Roger That says:

Very much agree, along with everyone else! Add J-Bay as WCT and get it back to 10 comps this season. Besides shouldn’t there be more $$ to support it with the media getting bought out?

  11. craig says:

Brazil deserves a WCT contest but surely at a world class spot and not some arbitary corner of beach in Rio. Fernado de Norha would be better. As for Jbay may the force be with you cause no one else is!

    1. william says:

even Noronha, doesn´t appears in the schedule anymore, Saquarema, Regencia, Ubatuba all do have constant quality waves, even in rio Prainha has good waves, but barra da tijuca is the worst place in the world.

  12. yu says:

What about Margret River – I thought it was getting WCT ranking ?

    1. ASP International says:

Margaret River is a women’s WCT event and men’s Prime event in 2013. It is a men’s and women’s WCT event from 2014 onwards.

  13. ivan96822 says:

    Super lame. Nine contests?

And what, these pros get paid all that money and they have from December 20 to March 2 OFF?

    Super lame, indeed.

  14. dennis m says:

No more than 4 points for each maneuver..Airs are boring..surfing and flying are two different sports..

  15. pat wilko says:

The ASP has gotta be kidding, you need more comps and more variation, you dropped good comps like J-Bay and put in nothing to replace it. 9 comps can not be enough to actually declare a world Champ. Should be 10 minimum. You have got to give the field a fair chance as less comps restrict who can actually win. You have already reduced the field of players now you are reducing the comps, for what end???

  16. db says:

surely they could put J-Bay in July?! or maybe they’d rather a wave pool comp… :/
