Holding Pattern Continues for Billabong Pipe Masters

[ 0 ] December 12, 2012 |

PIPELINE, Oahu/Hawaii (Wednesday, December 12, 2012) - Competition has been called off for a third consecutive day at the Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons, with small waves on offer again at Pipeline.

Stop No. 10 of 10 on the ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), the Billabong Pipe Masters is set to host a dramatic finish to the ASP Top 34 season, with current rankings frontrunner Joel Parkinson (AUS), 31, and reigning 11-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (USA), 40, battling for the crown.

“The surf is still small here at Pipeline so there will be no competition again today,” Marty Thomas, Vans Triple Crown Contest Director said. “The new swell on the horizon is materializing nicely for a restart to competition on Friday, but we’ll still return tomorrow morning to make another call.”

Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 6:30am to assess conditions for a possible 8am start.

Surfline, official forecasters for the Billabong Pipe Masters are calling for:

Minor NW swell to continue on Wednesday. A good size NW swell will build in and be strongest Friday, after slowly filling in Thursday. Strong and gusty ENE trades continue for the next several days.

When Billabong Pipe Masters competition resumes Gabriel Medina (BRA), 18, Josh Kerr (AUS), 27, and Kelly Slater (USA), 40, will take to the water first in Heat 3 of Round 4.
