North Shore, Oahu, HAWAII (Thursday, January 24, 2013) — Ian Crane (San Clemente, CA), 19, and Hawaiian Moana Jones secured victories at the second annual North Shore Surf Shop Pro Junior, topping an impressive field of global standouts to take their maiden ASP wins in building six-to-eight foot surf at Sunset Beach.

Hawaii’s most elite ASP Pro Junior event, the North Shore Surf Shop Pro Junior saw more than 100 international surfers from around the world compete at one of North Shore’s proving grounds.

Ian Crane, a standout on the ASP North America Pro Junior Series, clawed his way back in to the final, securing the victory over Hawaiians Seth Moniz and Keanu Asing with a last-minute wave. The Californian linked together a series of carves, scoring an 8.50 for the ride to take out the victory.

” I was kind of blowing it by falling then I finally got a perfect wave in the end that came straight to me, it was just meant to be.” said Crane.

Moana Jones, the youngest competitor in the final, topped fellow Hawaiians Baily Nage and Mahina Maeda. Following missed opportunities by the older surfers, Jones completed a series of turns through the inside to secure the win in the building Sunset Beach surf.

“I was competing with my really good friends and I was really excited,” said Jones. “I was super happy that it was bigger, I did not want it to be smaller, I was praying to God for it to be perfect and it was.”

The event was organized by Liam McNamera and with the help of many companies and donations form many entities the event was a great success. The Junior tour is now combined with ASP North America and gives valuable points for the youth to be able to compete in other events.
