PUNTA ROCA, La Libertad, El Salvador (Tuesday, June 4, 2013) – The El Salvador Pro is set to unfold at the world-class pointbreak of Punta Roca from July 9 through 14, and after two years on the ASP North America calendar as 3 and 4-Star events, the 2013 edition will be elevated to ASP 6-Star status.
The combination of increased points and a perfect righthand pointbreak provide all of the ingredients to create a world-class event and the ASP 6-Star Status will make this stop a pinnacle event on the 2013 ASP North America Schedule.
“We’re really happy that the El Salvador government has come on to bring this event to 6-Star status,” Meg Bernardo, ASP North America Executive Manager said. “A perfect wave and 6-Star points will definitely give rising Latino talent the chance to shine as well as attract some of the world’s best surfers to one of Central America’s finest waves.”
While the El Salvador Pro’s ASP 6-Star Status is sure to attract several of the world’s highest ranked surfers, the wealth of emerging Latin American talent recently surging on the international circuit will have the opportunity to showcase their abilities on Punta Roca’s flawless canvas.
“Over the last few years, we’ve really seen some relatively unknown talent standout at the newer events in Mexico and Central America and begin to make a name for themselves,” Brian Robbins, ASP North America Tour Manager said. “With several Latinos building their profiles in the smaller ASP events, the heightened 6-Star status in Punta Roca will really allow these up and coming surfers the opportunity to establish themselves on the ASP World Ranking alongside the rest of the already established global surfing communities.”
The El Salvador Pro is the second of three events unfolding in Latin America on the ASP North America schedule this year, with the first being the Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico. In addition, events in Cabo and Acapulco are scheduled to unfold this summer.
Entry space is still available for the El Salvador Pro, with a deadline of June 11.
The El Salvador Pro will be webcast Live.
