STEPHANIE GILMORE WINS BIG AT THE BILLABONG PRO MAUI

');document.writeln('
2X World Champion Stephanie Gilmore claims her first Vans Triple Crown and wins the Billabong Pro Maui today for a prize total of $22,000.

Gilmore met Hawaiian surfer Melanie Bartels in the final heat of competition. Heat scores stayed relatively close until midway through the heat when Gilmore turned it up a notch like the Champion she is leaving Bartels behind to take second.

Hawaiian Melanie Bartels's standout surfing today ousted the young trialist winner Carissa Moore in the quarters, then later removes Silvana Lima from the Triple Crown race.

Silvana Lima took the win against Megan Abubo in the quarterfinals, a big loss for Abubo as this result removes her off pro surfing's short list. Young Hawaiian surfers Coco Ho and Alana Blanchard qualify for the 2009 ASP World Tour.

Semifinal heat #1 was one to watch bringing together two champions 7X World Champion Layne Beachley and our current 2X World Champion Stephanie Gilmore. Both competitors were in the running for the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing win. Gilmore took an early lead on Beachley who never found her 9.3 to advance, this was Layne's last official heat on tour.
