Gabriel Medina (BRA) claimed his second ASP World Championship Tour event win of the season, first winning the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast and then taking out the Fiji Pro over fellow goofy-footer Nat Young (USA). In addition to his two victories, Medina has collected fifth, ninth and 13th place finishes, putting him in the No. 1 spot on the current ASP WCT ratings at the season's halfway point.

Medina's assault at the Fiji Pro was a blend of barrels, aerials, fin-free maneuvers and power carves all melded with speed and flow. His surfing was revolutionary for the event, which unfolds at Cloudbreak, Fiji's world-class reef break, and his performance further cements the young Brazilian as a legitimate contender for this year's ASP World Title.

"I feel like I can do anything on it. Barrels, airs, carves, it's a fast board and worked really well out at Cloudbreak this week. I'm very happy to be working with Johnny (Cabianca) and the entire Pukas crew." - Gabriel Medina

"'Da Freak Kid' Gabriel model is our top performance board. He is a big, strong surfer and has a lot of volume in his shortboards. That said, he's definitely able to throw it around a lot. 'Da Freak Kid' name came from Pottz (Martin Potter) actually. When Gabriel won the Quiksilver King of the Groms in France in 2009, he scored a Perfect 20 in the Final and Pottz called him 'Da Freak Kid'. The name is well earned and we stuck with it for his signature model." - Johnny Cabianca

Medina talked quivers with Martin Potter earlier this season, in Western Australia:
